“This past summer I was in China for an urban downhill race put on at Tianmen mountain. Red Bull sky gate is a race down 999 stairs with the steepness getting up to 67 degrees. It is so gnarly that it’s hard to put into perspective until you are there. I was so scared I couldn’t actually decide if I was going to ride, so after riding the bottom part of the course, like the last quarter, I finally just said screw it, and went to the top. I tipped in and it was so intense! Going insanely fast with no chance of stopping, just hoping that I held it together or it would be the gnarliest wreck of my life, and most likely a career or life ending injury. I ended up making it down but it was hands down the craziest thing I’ve ever done on a bike!”
A Q&A With KC Deane
What about the products are you most psyched on and how do they help you?
For me the Kneepro Noshock is one of my favorites. They fit so well that they don’t move, and I know when I do fall they will keep me protected without slipping up or down leaving my knees open to getting hurt.
Favorite place to ride?
Whistler, BC. If it is snow, or dirt, it really doesn’t get much better than riding here at home.
What's the perfect day of shredding to you?
In a perfect world, I get up around 6 am, stretch and think about the day over a few cups of coffee, then get in the heli and spin laps for half a day. Then come back and go for a trail ride on my enduro bike. It’s a flow trail that is fast and smooth, broken up by some technical sections and big flowing jumps. To end the day we somehow end up at a right hand point break that starts off mellow but big walls, then ramps up and barrels through the mid section to the inside and get spit out the barrel as the sun dips below the horizon.
